Answering the Call
Have you heard the longing in your soul, the cry of something you must contribute to this planet before you die?
If you have, then you also know that you are being called to a higher plane. This is no small contribution you are being asked to make. It is the kind of thing that keeps you up nights aching for a way and wondering if you have it in you to deliver this gift to humanity. You know you are being asked to make yourself equal to the task at hand. You know that the call on your life will require more from you than you have ever had to achieve before.
Perhaps you have already answered this call in your prayers. Maybe you have petitioned the Universe, quietly and without audience, or loudly, with a megaphone. Either way, you have given voice to this call and you have answered it, “Send me!” In so doing, you have made a covenant bond with your deepest desires.
Welcome to The Passion Path!
To decide is to begin.
Once you have cried out for the fulfillment of your purpose, you have stepped onto your Passion Path. From the moment you enter into the covenant your dream will not only call to you, it will draw you to it. The expression of the covenant permeates the ethers with your desire. To abandon your dream once the prayer is uttered is to abandon your heart. The call will eventually cease. But you will live your life with a sense that something irreplaceable was lost.
Your decision, your covenant, represents more than a beginning. It is an invocation. You have invoked the refining, all consuming fire of your destiny. This Fire is both destructive and generative. It will burn out all that is inconsistent with the realization of your dream and it will seed the new life that is to come.
Whether you know it or not, when you answered the call of your dream, you also answered the call of responsibility and fidelity. You are responsible for the fulfillment of your dream. That is the meaning of a covenant relationship. It is a knitting together and a mutual promise.
This place of responsibility is an uncomfortable place to be!
There are few models for covenants in our modern world and even fewer models of personal responsibility. Society has taught us to externalize our power, to place it in the hands of governments, organizations, guru’s, priests, shamans…really any place outside of ourselves will do. We have also been taught to walk away from anything that demands too much of us.
Your dream is not connected to our modern society and its scattered ways.
Your dream is connected to your heart where you still remember how to abandon yourself in devotion. The Fire is born of your heart. Those flames licking at the garmentof your personality are the fingers of your own Inner Shaman.
Can you accept this?
Are you willing to undertake the radical and psychologically difficult task of surrendering the notion that anyone or anything has more power over your life than you do?
Are you ready to come to the place of knowing that the shaman’s touch to which I refer is a touch that must be administered by your own hand?
That is not to say you will not meet teachers and gurus along the way. But when you meet these mentors, do not invest the power over your dreams in them. Recognize them as instruments of your Inner Shaman, your own hands in different form!
The Fire demands this shift in perspective.
It was you who cried out to Heaven. By your own intention, Heaven answers you. You have placed yourself in the hot seat and asked to be made equal to your dream. If you have not chosen freely, you have not made the required covenant.
