Alabaster Wings

Alabaster Wings

Your words encircled me,

And lifted me,

With effortless precision.

My arms formed,

Thick alabaster wings,

As I met the night sky,

Feathers shining against the moonlight.

I am a bird tonight,

Beyond earth’s grasp,

Beyond gravity.

I carry the ground with me.

Your words penetrated me,

Like arrows flung,

Driving deep,

Into soft flesh,

Suddenly cast,

Like shadows on the wall,

Against the small of my back.

Not hard metal,

But fleshy hands,

Tempting me,

To earth again,

To silken sheets.

I fall beneath.

Just words again.

But they find a deeper place,

Beyond flesh.

And I quiver.
